Training Needs Analysis

STS First Aid training can cater for any industry, in any environment at times to suit you. Our flexibility is paramount to our continuing growth. Use the following tool to let us help you find the most suitable First Aid course. Click on the size of organisation and the risk that you may be categorised in to find the perfect training for you.

First select which risk your company is.

Low Risk - e.g. Shops, Offices, Libraries
Employed Suggested Number of first aid personnel  
1-20 1 appointed person + 1 extra in case of holiday More
1-50 1 qualified + 1 appointed person as back up More
1-100 At least 1 qualified + 1 appointed person, but take into account size of area, locations, holiday leave. More

Medium Risk - e.g. Light Engineering, Assembly Work, Food Processing
Employed Suggested Number of first aid personnel  
1-10 1 Qualified person always on site. Also think about visitors welfare to the site. More
1-20 1 qualified per 50 employess + 2 appointed as back up More
1-50 1 First Aider always available per 5 - 50 employees. More

High Risk - e.g. Construction, Chemical Production, Engineering.
Employed Suggested Number of first aid personnel  
1-5 At least 2 qualified - always available. Think about holiday leave and absences. More
1-10 2 First Aiders for first 100 employees, + 1 for every additional 100. More
1-20 1 First Aider for every 50 employees. Take into account the size of the site, shift patterns, contract workers. More

Education - e.g. Schools, Nurseries, Colleges, Universities
Employed Suggested Number of first aid personnel  
1-50 Think about the size of the site, enforced absence due to school trips, illness and so on. More

Under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, it is the duty of every Employer to make provision for First Aid. "An employer shall provide such equipment and facilities as are adequate and appropriate in the circumstances for enabling First Aid to be rendered to their Employees if they are injured or become ill at Work".

The Employer, through Risk Assessment of the Workplace, having regard for the nature of the undertaking, the number of Employees at Work and the location of the establishment, must determine the number, contents and location of First Aid Kits.
